This book was a fun, fun read that induced a couple of short nights of sleep. The action was nonstop, yet Ms. Thorpe did a nice job building the world the story inhabits.For the first time in a while, I actually liked the characters in a fantasy book, and the different take on the Shifter community was refreshing.
Nice job, Ms. Thorpe! You do realize we need the next investigation, right?

Absolutely wonderful. I laughed until I cried. You will like this book. Take all the paranormal creatures you know and add them to a void and a shifter pack (void was new to me but a great idea). Add a pinch of sci-fy and you have this wonderful love story.
I give this book 5 out of 5 clouds.
Rick and his pack of misfits are a fun crazy bunch, throw in a half-crazy Void and you have a mixture that is sure to make you laugh. Rick and Az make one heck of a pair when it comes to finding out what is going on in Rick's little town. Rick and Az are a lot like fire and ice throughout this whole story never really knowing what is going to happen next. This fast-paced book definitely keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat wanting more. Kara Thorpe did an excellent job bringing me into this story and making it feel like I was right there experiencing it all with them, almost like watching a TV show but better.
If you love humour, mystery/suspense, and some gore thrown in, with a whole lot of paranormal you will love this book.

Witches, Voids, and Other Sanity Suckers by Kara Thorpe. I suggest this book for adults and mature teens.
Astraea (Az for short) is a Void. Magic has no effect on her and she can absorb magic. Of course there is a draw back to absorbing magic. It makes her a little crazy until it wears off.
Rick is a wolf shifter and a PI. He has been hired by her father to take care of Az. But as soon as he agrees the whole world seems to turn upside down on him. Now Az considers herself a partner to Rick. But he can’t complain too much, because she knows her magic and is good at helping him. Rick adds her to his pack of miscellelanious shifters.
But now it seems someone is either after Rick and his pack or just after Az. The two will have to work together to figure this out. And of course figure out what they mean to each other.
Without giving away any more spoilers, if you like Paranormal, detective work and a little romance, then I suggest this book. I can’t wait for Bears, Vampires and Other Bitey Things.
Witches, Voids and Other Sanity Suckers is a delightful, original read with so many surprises and twists you just can’t put it away. It’s one of the best paranormal romances I’ve read since I started blogging. The world-building is impressive, especially the part about Voids, and the characters are intriguing.
Let’s start with Rick Haskall. He’s a wolf shifter, and a private investigator of sorts. As the alpha of a pack of misfit shifters, he has his hands full. But when he’s hired to take care of Az Vardan, the daughter of the Mage of New Orleans, he can’t refuse, especially not with the price tag attached to this job. But Az is nothing like he expected.
Az is a Void, which means she can absorb magic, but doing so makes her temporarily insane. From the moment Rick and Az meet, there’s sparks. Tension rolls off the pages, and it’s so much fun to read their dialogue and flirty banter. Az was my favorite character of both of them she’s strong, smart and resourceful, yet she’s flawed too, and I liked that.
Even more than the characters, the plot drives the book forward. Witches die in police custody, centaurs are being murdered, and someone seems to be after Rick and his pack, a threat more powerful than anything he’s ever faced, and he’ll need Az’s skills and knowledge to help defeat it.
It’s a fast-paced, highly entertaining book, and I can’t wait for the sequel. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
